Job details
About this role
Role overview
A senior data engineer is needed to strengthen the data foundation for a growing network of accounting and advisory firms. The platform connects operational and financial data across firms to support faster closes, better decisions, and healthier margins. This remote, individual-contributor role offers chances to mentor teammates and shape engineering standards while partnering across Operations, Finance, HR, and Engineering.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain tested, documented dbt models across bronze, silver, and gold layers, emphasizing reusable business models and consistent metric definitions. - Refine canonical models for firms, clients, employees, projects, time, work in progress, invoices, cash receipts, and revenue. - Reconcile financial and operational data to source systems, investigate discrepancies, and build measurable quality controls with actionable exception reporting. - Create entity crosswalks and historical logic that preserve reporting continuity through acquisitions, firm migrations, and source-system changes. - Build ingestion from SQL Server, cloud databases, SaaS platforms, and APIs using Python and SQL, designing incremental and idempotent loads that protect source performance. - Strengthen production reliability through automated tests, freshness checks, schema-change monitoring, alerts, logging, and CI/CD.
Requirements
- 5+ years in data engineering, analytics engineering, or a related role, with equivalent experience welcomed. - Deep production dbt experience covering testing, documentation, macros, dependencies, and deployment workflows. - Advanced SQL and strong data-modeling skills including dimensional models, historical data, and reusable business definitions. - Ability to reconcile financial and operational data and explain differences clearly to technical and business audiences. - Strong Python skills with experience building ingestion or automation against APIs, databases, and external systems. - Practical knowledge of incremental loading, change capture, idempotency, backfills, and schema evolution, plus experience with Git, code review, CI/CD, and data-quality monitoring. - Working knowledge of least-privilege access, sensitive-data handling, and secrets management.
Nice to have
- Databricks, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, SQL warehouses, or Databricks Jobs and Workflows familiarity. - Azure, Azure Blob Storage, Windows-hosted ingestion, or on-premises SQL Server experience. - Accounting or professional-services data knowledge, especially billing, WIP, revenue, or financial reconciliation. - Multi-firm or multi-tenant data platforms with row-level security or entity-mapping migrations.
Benefits and work setup
- Fully remote, full-time role; most of the team works in the Eastern Time zone with light travel for occasional in-person collaboration. - Health, dental, and vision insurance with options for fully paid employee-only coverage. - Company-paid life and long-term and short-term disability insurance, plus supplemental life, critical illness, and accident insurance. - Safe Harbor 401(k) plan with employer contributions. - Learning and development support including access to Becker and LinkedIn Learning.
