Role overview This Application Architect I role is responsible for designing and guiding the development of individual applications or application suites within a software provider serving community and regional financial institutions. The position works at the intersection of business stakeholders, technical leads, and development teams, ensuring solutions are scalable, maintainable, performant, and aligned with enterprise architecture standards. It suits an architect who enjoys both hands-on design work and mentoring developers across the application lifecycle.

Responsibilities - Design architecture for individual applications or application suites that meets functional and non-functional requirements. - Produce technical specifications, design documents, and application models. - Ensure application architectures adhere to enterprise architecture principles, technology standards, and security guidelines. - Provide technical guidance to development teams throughout the application lifecycle. - Collaborate with solution and enterprise architects on integration with other systems, services, and data sources. - Conduct reviews covering performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability for assigned applications. - Research, evaluate, and recommend technologies, frameworks, and tools relevant to application development. - Mentor developers on design principles, coding best practices, and architectural patterns.

Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; Master's preferred. - 7-10 years of software development experience. - Strong grasp of application design patterns, architectural best practices, and integration approaches. - Proficiency in major programming languages, development frameworks, and modern application stacks. - Experience with relational and/or NoSQL database design, performance tuning, and data modelling. - Familiarity with user experience considerations and how they shape application design. - Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills, with the ability to balance technical constraints against business and user needs.

Nice to have - Prior experience architecting solutions for banking, lending, digital banking, payments, or financial crime prevention domains. - Familiarity with open and flexible core platforms used by community and regional financial institutions.
