Forward Deployed Engineer, Agentic Commerce

Role overview This is a forward-deployed engineering position focused on shipping agentic commerce features inside a client's engineering organization. The engineer works in the client's repositories and cloud accounts, owning delivery from a scoped statement of work through production deployment, and ensures the client team can operate the system after handoff. The work centers on agent-driven product discovery, safe catalog and pricing tools, and checkout flows that allow an agent to act on behalf of a customer without crossing guardrails.

Responsibilities - Embed with the client team, working in their codebase and deployment pipeline while shipping agent features behind existing review and release gates - Build typed tool surfaces over the Shopify Storefront API, Hydrogen, and headless catalog and inventory services with bounded side effects - Own the final rollout stage, including feature flags, staged deployment, and a rollback plan the on-call team can run without outside help - Design a permission model for what an agent may read, quote, reserve, and purchase, and enforce it at the service layer - Write evaluation suites against real catalog data and customer intents, tracking regressions on every model or prompt change - Instrument every tool call so behavior can be explained from logs, and produce runbooks and alert thresholds for the handoff

Requirements - Five or more years of production software experience in TypeScript or Python - At least one shipped system built on LLM tool calling that real users relied on - Prior experience embedded in a client or partner engineering team - Depth in commerce platforms such as Shopify Plus or a headless stack including Storefront API, Hydrogen, commercetools, or Salesforce Commerce Cloud - A working approach that treats evals and observability as part of the feature, not a follow-up ticket - Ability to explain model failure modes to merchandising leads and rate limits to a CTO in the same conversation

Nice to have - Experience with the Model Context Protocol or building tool servers for multiple agents - Exposure to Shopify Storefront MCP, agentic checkout, or ChatGPT and Perplexity commerce surfaces - Background in forward-deployed, solutions engineering, or professional services work
