Full Stack Engineer (Backend Focus)

Role overview This mid-to-senior individual contributor will build across the product while taking the lead on backend architecture and platform decisions. The work spans data models, integrations, infrastructure, and security, alongside end-to-end product development in a small, distributed engineering team.

Responsibilities - Build and review product changes across the stack, from database work through user-facing features. - Design and evolve data models, and review migrations for live systems. - Own third-party integrations and assess when to build a capability or use an external service. - Operate deployment pipelines, monitoring, and cloud infrastructure; lead response to outages and technical escalations. - Keep dependencies current, simplify the stack where practical, and work with data colleagues on privacy and security. - Help the team develop AI-assisted coding tools and workflows, and explain technical decisions in reviews and discussions.

Requirements - Typically five or more years building production software across the stack, with deeper backend experience; equivalent experience may be considered. - Experience building backend systems from the ground up and taking responsibility for production operations, including CI, monitoring, and incident response. - Strong PostgreSQL skills, including schema design and migrations on actively used systems. - Experience maintaining third-party integrations and making reasoned build-versus-buy decisions. - Careful approach to data privacy and security, plus hands-on use of AI coding tools to build and review work. - Able to ship end-to-end features, communicate technical tradeoffs clearly, and collaborate as a hands-on contributor rather than a manager.
