Remote job
Staff Software Engineer, Mobile QA
Job details
About this role
Role overview Staff Software Engineer focused on Mobile Quality Assurance within the App Infra team, leading a reimagined release process for a high-traffic retail mobile app being rewritten from a cross-platform JavaScript framework to native Swift and Kotlin. The role owns the technical strategy for test infrastructure that roughly 30 product teams rely on, with a focus on quality gates that hold up across a phased rollout. You will translate organizational strategy into operational QA practice at scale.
Responsibilities - Own the technical strategy for mobile QA infrastructure across the native rewrite, operating at depth in the codebase and designing practices that lower maintenance overhead while raising release quality. - Build and scale automated regression test systems, deciding which layers of regression, performance validation, and release readiness gating get automated versus kept human-driven. - Lead the QA readiness workstream for the phased rollout, bringing clarity to success metrics, resourcing, and operational planning. - Make ongoing investment calls, doubling down on testing where it pays off and pulling back as quality gains diminish. - Partner with engineering leadership, product, and design to define SLOs and quality dashboards that give the team metric-driven controls over rollout speed. - Shape the QA onboarding playbook for product teams transitioning to native, set the hiring bar for QA contributors, and mentor engineers on test architecture, native debugging, and quality standards.
Requirements - 8+ years of software engineering experience with deep expertise in mobile test infrastructure, including architecting automated regression systems for native iOS and Android at scale. - Track record of defining and delivering test infrastructure strategy that other engineering teams depend on. - Strong proficiency in both Swift and Kotlin, with the ability to architect test frameworks, debug native app behavior, and enforce compile-time quality constraints even under pressure to ship. - Experience operating QA processes during large-scale migrations or platform transitions, including dual-codebase parity validation, phased rollout gates, and leading incident reviews that improve team practices. - Demonstrated ability to build alignment and secure commitment from cross-team and cross-functional partners on quality standards, testing strategy, and release criteria. - Responsible use of generative AI, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and measurable gains in efficiency, cost, and quality.
Benefits and work setup - Remote-first team with periodic in-person working sessions roughly quarterly. - Sits within the App Infra team under the Consumer & Business product group.
