Remote job
Senior Software Engineer, Native Mobile
Job details
About this role
Role overview Senior Software Engineer on the App Infra team helping execute a greenfield rewrite of a high-traffic retail mobile app from a cross-platform JavaScript framework to native Swift and Kotlin. Using AI-assisted code generation as a force multiplier, the team is rebuilding every core surface to deliver a faster, higher-quality experience for millions of users. This role combines deep native mobile craft with cross-platform reach, since engineers on the team own both iOS and Android.
Responsibilities - Define architectural patterns, improve build speeds, and shape development workflows that accelerate other frontend engineers across the organization. - Own development of core app surfaces in Swift and Kotlin, translating existing flows into performant native implementations that meet strict performance budgets, and setting the project-level quality bar through code and design reviews. - Operate inside the AI-assisted code generation loop, applying native mobile expertise to validate architecture, catch edge cases, and ensure production-quality outputs from LLM-driven translation. - Partner with product teams onboarding to native, reviewing pull requests, challenging weak patterns, and attacking slow paths such as flaky tests, painful deploys, and ambiguous handoffs between codebases. - Drive performance optimization across device tiers, using trade-off analysis to eliminate loading indicators, scroll jank, and frame stalls, with particular attention to low-end Android. - Contribute to a dual-app parity strategy during the transition, removing meaningful technical debt while keeping features and bug fixes synchronized between the legacy and native codebases.
Requirements - 5+ years of iOS or Android mobile software engineering experience with Swift or Kotlin. - Demonstrated ability to build and ship performant mobile applications, with focus on frame stability, cold start optimization, and responsive UI across diverse device populations. - Proficiency in Swift or Kotlin with working knowledge of the other platform, and willingness to develop cross-platform fluency. - Experience with mobile CI/CD pipelines, build systems, and release processes, and a track record of delivering project-level outcomes that compound beyond a single cycle. - Responsible use of generative AI, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and measurable gains in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
Benefits and work setup - Remote-first team with periodic in-person working sessions roughly quarterly. - Reports into the App Infra team within the Consumer & Business product group.
