Role overview A staff-level engineering role on a payment solutions team building AI-powered healthcare products that support payment integrity workflows across providers, payers, and delegated entities. The position leads an autonomous agile team designing highly available, cloud-native SaaS platforms that operate at the intersection of healthcare interoperability and modern distributed systems. It is remote-first with occasional travel to Boston for onboarding and team events.
Responsibilities - Provide technical leadership across architecture and system design while mentoring engineers on a SaaS platform - Lead development of AI-powered applications and platforms that are highly configurable and optimized for performance - Design data and retrieval architectures that give AI agents the right context across diverse healthcare sources - Design, review, and own production code while leading releases, deployments, and on-call support - Drive strategy for non-functional requirements including observability, instrumentation, performance, and security - Collaborate with machine learning, data science, product, and architecture peers to align technical work with business needs
Requirements - 12 or more years in software development with progression into complex cloud-native system design - Deep expertise in authentication and authorization frameworks, secure API design, access control, and automated testing - Strong system design, observability, and production operations skills - Full-stack experience with modern languages, event-driven systems, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code - Background designing data systems and pipelines for analytical and AI workloads, with solid data modeling fundamentals - Track record shaping engineering standards, mentoring engineers, and communicating strategy to mixed audiences
Nice to have - Experience with AI architectures such as multi-agent systems, retrieval-augmented generation, and evaluation frameworks - Background in healthcare technology, health plans, payment integrity, or healthcare interoperability standards - Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field
