About this role

Role overview

A backend engineering role on the team responsible for the enterprise operator experience of a self-hosted development platform. The work centers on the features that let large organizations confidently run the platform in production, with attention to scale, upgrade safety, reliability, observability, auditability, and security.

Responsibilities

- Design and ship backend features end to end, from initial design through production rollout, partnering closely with product and design. - Write database migrations that follow the team's patterns for schema compatibility and safe upgrades. - Build the observability, reporting, and audit features administrators rely on to understand what their deployment is doing. - Build features that keep enterprise deployments secure, following established security practices. - Investigate and resolve scalability bottlenecks under production-like load, spanning database access patterns and concurrency in the platform's backend services. - Triage and resolve backend issues surfaced by operators and administrators. - Document features so reviewers and future engineers can understand them without reverse-engineering. - Participate in code reviews, contribute to RFC-style design discussions, and join the on-call rotation.

Requirements

- Two or more years of professional software engineering experience. - Professional experience writing and shipping production Go. - Working understanding of Go's concurrency model, including goroutines, channels, and the sync package. - Comfortable with SQL, schema changes, and writing migrations. - Strong verbal and written communication skills, including surfacing blockers and uncertainty early. - Solid debugging skills and the persistence to work a problem through, escalating early when stuck. - A self-motivated, analytical engineer who enjoys difficult technical challenges.

Nice to have

- Experience investigating performance under real-world load, including debugging race conditions. - Experience with observability, audit, or security features in an enterprise product. - Experience with major cloud providers, Kubernetes, and container orchestration. - Experience building or operating distributed systems at meaningful scale. - Curiosity about the latest developer tooling.

Benefits and work setup

- Backend stack spans Go, Postgres, Kubernetes, and gRPC, with Prometheus and Grafana for observability and GitHub Actions for CI/CD. - Day-to-day collaboration tools include GitHub, Slack, Discord, and Notion. - Interview process is structured to wrap in roughly two to four weeks and includes meetings with individual contributors, managers, and senior leaders. - AI tooling is permitted for take-home assessments but not during live conversational interviews; hiring decisions are made by humans.
