About this role
Role overview The Frontend Engineer joins an Underwriting Workbench team building the platform used by underwriters to make informed risk decisions at scale. The role partners closely with Product, Design, engineering peers, and the underwriters themselves to turn complex workflows into fast, clear, and trustworthy experiences, including interfaces for AI-assisted underwriting.
Responsibilities - Build and continuously improve the core Workbench experience used by underwriters and adjacent teams. - Keep a data-heavy application fast, responsive, and reliable as usage and complexity grow. - Design and ship interfaces for AI-assisted workflows that feel clear, useful, and trustworthy to daily users. - Partner with Product Management and Design to shape requirements and translate user research into meaningful product improvements. - Raise technical quality through code reviews, testing, reusable components, and contributions to the technical roadmap. - Diagnose frontend performance and reliability issues using profiling and observability tools.
Requirements - 2+ years of professional software development experience, with a degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience. - Hands-on experience building web-based user interfaces with modern TypeScript, React, HTML, and CSS. - Experience integrating frontend applications with REST APIs and collaborating effectively with backend engineers. - Comfort managing complex application state, including tables, filters, saved views, optimistic updates, and synchronized workflows. - Familiarity with Git or comparable source-control tools and agile software development practices. - Strong product judgment and a practical approach to making progress through ambiguity.
Nice to have - Experience building internal tools used by daily power users. - Experience designing or building REST APIs with a server-side language such as Python. - Familiarity with relational databases and SQL, Next.js, or Material UI. - Experience with rich-text editors, virtualized tables, real-time collaborative interfaces, cybersecurity, or insurtech.
