Senior Backend Engineer

Role overview Remote opportunity for a Senior Backend Engineer to join a product squad focused on a core custom-data subsystem powering dynamic schemas, high-volume updates, and flexible user configuration. The role centers on building scalable, high-throughput, low-latency services that handle millions of requests per day, with end-to-end ownership from design through production. The work is highly collaborative, partnering closely with cross-functional stakeholders to ship a polished product.

Responsibilities - Design, build, and ship features and services with a strong focus on performance, reliability, and detail. - Own development end to end, from initial conception through production deployment and ongoing iteration. - Tune and improve existing systems, identifying opportunities to raise throughput and reduce latency. - Collaborate with product, design, and other engineering teams to deliver a high-quality product experience. - Help shape a strong engineering culture rooted in technical excellence and shared ownership.

Requirements - 5+ years of experience building performant, high-throughput backend systems, ideally on Node.js. - Strong coding skills in TypeScript (or comparable modern language) with a track record of shipping clean, reliable code. - Solid experience writing and debugging SQL queries at scale. - Hands-on experience designing or operating event-based systems. - Familiarity with a major cloud provider, ideally AWS. - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience. - Comfortable working with ambiguity, delivering with minimal direction, and communicating empathetically across teams.

Nice to have - A product-minded perspective with intuition for what makes a great user experience. - Experience with distributed systems at scale.
