Senior Software Engineer, Devices

Role overview The Devices team builds identity and login integrations for the operating systems students use in classrooms, spanning iOS, macOS, Windows, and ChromeOS, with both web identity standards and native code in Swift and C++. The Senior Software Engineer will work across backend services and native device clients to make signing in to a shared school device fast, secure, and easy for IT admins to manage. Near-term projects include Platform SSO for macOS, Google Books login support, and Apple School Manager integration.

Responsibilities - Build features across the device surface, from backend services to native device clients, that get students into learning apps quickly and securely. - Lead complex projects from design through deployment, partnering with Product, Design, IT admins, and Customer Support to understand real-world district behavior. - Drive work across native clients in Swift and C++ and the services behind them, including Platform SSO and identity provider integrations. - Apply modular, extensible, and testable design patterns, automate unit and end-to-end tests, and refactor to pay down technical debt. - Mentor peers through code reviews and technical leadership while helping maintain the stability of the login systems schools rely on daily. - Participate in an on-call rotation to ensure stability of critical login systems.

Requirements - 4+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong engineering foundation and device-centric experience. - Professional experience building native applications for Windows or supporting Windows environments; experience with another platform (iOS, macOS, ChromeOS) is a plus. - Experience with MDM platforms such as Intune or Jamf, setting up and troubleshooting Entra/Azure environments, or integrating with Apple School Manager. - Proven ability to lead complex projects from design to deployment, collaborating with technical and non-technical stakeholders. - Experience architecting end-to-end systems that solve complex product needs and handle diverse data requirements. - Commitment to writing modular, extensible, testable code and to the team's engineering culture.

Nice to have - Experience with the tech stack: Swift, C++, Go, TypeScript, Node.js, and React, plus AWS services (Lambdas, Step Functions, SQS) and data layers (DynamoDB, S3, MongoDB). - Development experience for at least one of iOS, macOS, Windows, and ChromeOS. - Comfort participating in an on-call rotation for production stability. - Familiarity with AI coding tools such as Claude Code or Cursor to enhance productivity and code quality.
