Role overview This role sits on the backend engineering team of a large-scale consumer platform that connects people with fitness, wellness, and lifestyle experiences worldwide. The engineer designs and ships reliable APIs and microservices that power core platform functionality used by both end users and studio partners. The position operates within an Agile, cross-functional environment alongside Product, Design, and QA, contributing to roadmap and design discussions while keeping user experience at the center of every decision.
Responsibilities - Collaborate with Product, Design, and QA teams to iterate on backend architecture and deliver end-to-end solutions. - Design and build reliable, scalable APIs and microservices that power core platform functionality. - Apply engineering best practices including automated testing, code reviews, and proactive monitoring to maintain high system reliability. - Solicit diverse feedback and use it to improve code quality and team collaboration. - Participate in roadmap planning and design discussions, contributing technical expertise and well-considered insights. - Keep user experience top of mind when building systems meant to delight both studio partners and end users.
Requirements - Significant experience building and scaling backend systems for large-scale SaaS products. - Strong background in object-oriented programming languages such as C# or Java. - Experience designing service-oriented and microservice-based architectures. - Familiarity with modern monitoring and observability tools, with New Relic and Kibana cited as examples. - Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle, design patterns, and Agile methodologies. - Proven ability to assess feature impact, identify risks, and design for long-term maintainability. - Strong verbal and written communication skills in a professional setting, with a detail-oriented and collaborative working style.
Nice to have While not formal requirements, candidates with a mix of backend languages beyond core OOP, exposure to frontend technologies like React for collaboration purposes, and depth in relational database systems will find their skills well-applied. The tech stack blends JVM languages (Java, Kotlin) with Python, React on the frontend, SQL and relational databases for storage, and observability tooling such as New Relic and Kibana.
