Staff Engineer (Ingeniero Staff) - Remote First

Role overview This remote-first Staff Engineer position is a senior individual-contributor role within a Latin American spend management platform, providing cross-team technical leadership rather than people management. The engineer will shape architecture, raise engineering standards across product pods, and multiply impact through hands-on delivery, design documentation, and mentorship.

Responsibilities - Drive system design for cross-pod initiatives spanning APIs, data models, event flows, and reliability patterns, holding a high bar for coherence, operability, and long-term cost. - Set and model standards for code quality, testing (including TDD/BDD), observability, and secure design through RFCs, architecture reviews, and pairing. - Partner with Engineering Directors, Pod Leads, and Product on sequencing, technical debt, and platform investments, making trade-offs explicit and documented. - Grow Senior and Mid engineers via design reviews, deep pairing, and hiring signal; provide technical-fit input while managers own career and performance outcomes. - Lead or co-lead response and remediation for high-severity incidents on systems under influence, driving durable fixes rather than band-aids. - Author meaningful production pull requests, keeping Staff as a builder role that ships code alongside architectural contributions.

Requirements - 8+ years of professional software engineering, with substantial time as a Senior or Lead IC on complex systems. - Deep expertise in at least one area: backend (Java with Spring, microservices, PostgreSQL/MySQL and NoSQL data modeling, event-driven architectures such as Kafka, REST APIs, AWS, Docker/Kubernetes), or frontend (production React and TypeScript at scale, component architecture, performance, testing with Jest/RTL/Cypress/Playwright, build and CI tooling). - Full-stack reasoning ability, able to read the path from data model through API to UI even when depth sits on one side. - Experience designing for high availability, security, and operability in production, plus strong testing culture and CI/CD familiarity with GitHub Actions. - Demonstrated influence without formal authority across teams and stakeholders, with clear communication of trade-offs to Product, Design, and leadership. - Strong written English; Spanish is a plus for regional collaboration.

Nice to have - Experience in financial applications, payments, or regulated Latin American markets. - Prior Staff, Principal, or org-wide Tech Lead scope. - Platform or developer-experience investments such as shared libraries, internal tools, or AI-assisted engineering workflows. - Deep AWS (EKS, RDS, MSK) or security posture work, including auth and supply chain.
