QA Automation Lead (Líder de Automatización de QA) - Remote First
Job details
About this role
Role overview This is a technical leadership position responsible for setting the automation strategy and quality standards across web, API, and mobile surfaces. The role partners with engineering directors, pod leads, and product teams to make automation the default path to release confidence while mentoring QA and engineering teammates. It is a hands-on authority position focused on framework design, not a classic people-management seat.
Responsibilities - Define and evolve the organization-wide automation roadmap, including test pyramid design, risk-based prioritization, and shift-left practices spanning payments, onboarding, cards, and accounts. - Own architecture decisions for shared automation frameworks, including Playwright for web and API testing, with Appium or Webdriver.io applied where mobile automation is needed. - Establish org-wide definitions for release-blocking coverage, flakiness thresholds, and what must be automated versus explored manually, while protecting trust in automated results. - Align with engineering directors, pod leads, product, and platform teams on capacity trade-offs, environment and test-data dependencies, and adoption plans. - Coach QA engineers and developers on automation craft, code review, and adoption of shared tooling, and contribute to technical hiring signal for automation roles. - Drive integration of automation into CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions for smoke and regression stages, with reporting through Allure, Qase, or internal test-management tools.
Requirements - 6+ years in software quality engineering with deep, hands-on automation experience rather than manual-only QA. - Demonstrated ownership of test automation frameworks for web and API, with Playwright strongly preferred and Cypress, Selenium, or Webdriver.io as relevant alternatives. - Experience designing modular, data-driven suites using Page Object or screen patterns, with tagging for smoke and regression and selective CI execution. - Solid programming skills in TypeScript or JavaScript, plus comfort reading production-adjacent code in Java/Spring or React. - API testing expertise across contract and integration layers, with familiarity in SQL and test-data design. - CI/CD integration experience and a working understanding of flaky-test management and parallelization. - Excellent written and verbal English; Spanish is a plus for collaboration with Latin American teams.
Nice to have - Experience with AI-assisted QA tooling, including agents that generate or execute tests from tickets. - Familiarity with orchestration tools such as n8n and ticketing integrations like Linear. - Background in financial or fintech products such as payments, cards, and onboarding. - ISTQB certification or equivalent, or prior experience as a QA Tech Lead or SDET Lead.
Benefits and work setup - Competitive salary with stock options from day one, an annual learning budget, and accelerated development paths. - Hybrid model combining remote flexibility with in-office collaboration, without fixed in-office days but with team-driven expectations during ramp-up.
