About this role
Role overview A senior, hands-on technical leadership position guiding a multidisciplinary data team on a long-term engagement supporting a US-based organization in the education technology sector. The role spans the full data product lifecycle, including ingestion, lakehouse design, modeling, governance, and serving layers, and acts as the technical reference for the team rather than a traditional line manager. Delivery follows a nearshore model with consistent overlap with US Central business hours.
Responsibilities - Lead the data team technically, coaching specialists and developers through design, build, and maintenance of data products and pipelines. - Shape and evolve the target data architecture across ingestion, lakehouse, modeling, governance, and serving layers, balancing security, performance, and cost. - Turn business and technical requirements into workable solutions, choosing suitable frameworks, patterns, and modeling approaches for each context. - Partner with stakeholder architects and business leaders to present options and trade-offs, capturing decisions in shared artifacts. - Define and uphold practices for data quality, access control, lineage, and privacy in regulated or sensitive-data environments. - Apply CI/CD and DataOps principles for stable delivery, lead current-state assessments, and build prototypes that validate architectural choices.
Requirements - Advanced English at C1 or above for daily interaction with North American stakeholders. - Demonstrated experience designing data architecture and technically leading multidisciplinary teams. - Track record building scalable data pipelines, lakehouse architectures, and production data products. - Hands-on command of Databricks (Delta Lake and Unity Catalog) or equivalent depth on AWS data services. - Strong dimensional (Kimball) and relational modeling skills with advanced SQL. - Familiarity with orchestration tools such as dbt, Databricks Workflows, or Apache Airflow, plus readiness for nearshore delivery aligned to US Central hours.
Nice to have - Databricks certification, Snowflake or comparable warehouse exposure, regulated-industry governance expertise, CI/CD and MLOps practice, AI and agentic coding familiarity, consultative assessment experience, and Spanish or Portuguese language skills.
Benefits and work setup - Premium healthcare plan, meal voucher, and sick pay. - Maternity and parental leave, mobile services subsidy, and life insurance. - Continuous learning platform access, Colombian holidays, and paid vacations. - Remote delivery model with sustained US Central hours overlap.
