About this role
Role overview A senior engineering role on a small, high-ownership team rebuilding payroll infrastructure used by thousands of businesses. The work centers on turning complex backend systems, including money movement, tax calculations, and compliance workflows, into clear, dependable products that partners and their employees can rely on. Requirements - Senior-level experience building complex systems or working within regulated industries, with a focus on scaling - Ability to drive team-wide projects autonomously and deliver measurable business impact - Comfort working cross-functionally with multiple internal stakeholders and end customers in parallel - Track record of fast, high-quality decision making grounded in prior experience - Curiosity and tenacity for debugging intricate problems across distributed systems - Willingness to learn the current stack, which includes Python/Django, React, TypeScript, AWS, Terraform, Postgres, Temporal, and GitHub
Benefits and work setup - Fully distributed team across the US with remote, hybrid, or in-office options in New York City and San Francisco - In-office locations open all week, with meals provided on Tuesdays and Thursdays, plus regular happy hours and game nights - Annual three-day company retreat each spring, plus team offsites, events, and hackathons throughout the year - Remote employees expected to maintain quality communication and productivity without distraction
