Frontend Engineer, Chat Widget
Job details
About this role
Role overview
Own an embeddable chat widget used across customer storefronts and marketing sites. The work combines frontend engineering, performance optimization, accessibility, internationalization, and defensive browser compatibility for environments where the surrounding code and styles are outside your control.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain the widget and its customer-facing interactions. - Keep the bundle compact and minimize loading, rendering, and runtime impact on revenue-critical pages. - Protect the widget from conflicting scripts, hostile CSS, unusual DOM structures, and cross-browser differences. - Implement WCAG-aligned keyboard navigation, screen-reader support, and reliable focus management. - Support multiple languages and right-to-left layouts from a shared codebase. - Refine interaction details, including component behavior, animation timing, and perceived usability.
Requirements
- At least four years of frontend engineering experience. - Strong JavaScript and TypeScript fundamentals. - Practical experience improving browser performance through bundle reduction, render optimization, and lazy loading. - Accessibility knowledge validated with real assistive technology, not only automated checks. - Ability to investigate browser differences, including issues specific to mobile Safari. - High attention to interaction quality and implementation detail.
Nice to have
- Experience delivering a third-party embed, SDK, or web widget. - Familiarity with Shadow DOM and other style-isolation approaches. - Experience building right-to-left interfaces, especially for Arabic-language users.
