Role overview
Build and operate the backend foundations behind a customer-facing conversational product. The role covers platform APIs, integrations, webhook reliability, billing workflows, auditability, and access control, with an emphasis on finding and addressing operational or security issues before they affect customers.
Responsibilities
- Design and maintain APIs used by the dashboard, chat widget, and external integrations. - Own webhook delivery and ingestion, including retries, idempotency, and signature verification. - Maintain Stripe billing and subscription flows covering plan changes, usage limits, and failed payments. - Build audit logging and access controls needed for customer security reviews. - Instrument backend systems so failures and performance issues are detected proactively. - Protect tenant boundaries and data isolation across the platform.
Requirements
- At least four years of experience building production backend services. - Strong API design judgment and experience versioning APIs used by external teams. - Solid database skills, including query performance optimization and migrations on live data. - Experience integrating billing or payment systems and handling their edge cases. - A defensive approach to authentication, tenancy boundaries, and data protection.
Nice to have
- Experience with real-time messaging technologies such as WebSockets or server-sent events. - Background in queues, rate limiting, or usage metering. - Familiarity with collecting evidence for SOC 2 or GDPR processes.
