About this role

Role overview

A Staff Backend Engineer is needed to act as the technical lead on the Exposure Management team, guiding the migration of a legacy Attack Surface Management product onto a next-generation Exposure Management platform. The role combines hands-on backend engineering with architectural leadership, balancing ongoing customer commitments on the legacy product with the long-term migration roadmap. The work centers on large-scale, real-time streaming services that process massive internet datasets, with opportunities to leverage AI and LLM technologies inside the platform.

Responsibilities

- Serve as tech lead for the Exposure Management team, driving technical direction across services and strengthening architecture and system design practices. - Own the migration plan that brings legacy ASM functionality onto the new Exposure Management platform while honoring current customer commitments. - Take end-to-end ownership of backend services, resolving complex legacy behavior and ensuring interoperability with the new platform. - Drive technical alignment across shared systems to improve coordination, scalability, and engineering effectiveness. - Foster technical excellence through mentorship, architectural leadership, and high engineering standards. - Apply AI and LLM technologies to improve engineering efficiency and enhance intelligent capabilities within the platform.

Requirements

- 10+ years of software engineering experience with a bias toward action and iterative problem solving, including legacy codebases. - 5+ years of professional experience with Go as a primary backend language. - Strong distributed systems background, including horizontally scalable, high-availability, fault-tolerant systems. - Experience with service-oriented architectures and supporting operational stacks such as gRPC, REST, microservices, GCP, and Kubernetes. - Ability to navigate unfamiliar legacy systems, reverse-engineer behavior, and resolve complex issues with minimal disruption. - Strong communication and technical design skills, with the ability to document architectures and drive solutions from concept to implementation. - Working knowledge of internet fundamentals such as WHOIS, certificate Subject Alternative Names, and DNS record types.

Nice to have

- Experience leading product migrations or platform consolidations that balance legacy and parallel new development. - Familiarity with event-driven architectures such as GCP Pub/Sub or similar. - A habit of building maintainable software with CI-enforced test coverage, linters, and code complexity checks.
