About this role
Role overview Lead engineering for an AI-enabled patient engagement platform supporting clinical trials. The platform is intended to automate standardized outreach, recruitment conversations, appointment coordination, and prescreening so research staff can focus more time on patient care and research decisions. This role combines organizational leadership with architectural guidance and delivery ownership.
Responsibilities - Own the engineering roadmap and coordinate delivery with product and design partners. - Guide architecture for conversational workflows, voice and messaging, task orchestration, and data pipelines. - Oversee development of configurable conversation flows and scheduling systems that account for contact windows, time zones, operating hours, outcomes, and retry policies. - Balance new features, platform reliability, team capacity, and technical debt. - Improve agile planning and CI/CD practices to support a dependable delivery pace. - Manage, mentor, and grow engineering managers and technical leads; support hiring and career development.
Requirements - Bachelor’s degree and at least 7 years of software engineering experience, including 3 or more years managing engineering teams. - Experience leading engineering in a SaaS product organization and a background as a software developer. - Ability to guide technical architecture and discuss engineering tradeoffs without needing to code daily. - Strong communication, collaboration, and people-management skills. - Experience or strong interest in conversational systems, telephony integrations, or AI and automation workflows. - Experience in healthcare technology, biotechnology, clinical trials, life sciences, or another regulated environment with strict data privacy needs.
Benefits and work setup - Hybrid role based in Boston, with one day per week in the office; occasional planned travel may be required. - Expected annual pay range: $180,000–$230,000 for full-time team members. - Benefits include paid time off and holidays, employer-paid medical, dental, and vision plan options, HSA and FSA accounts, short- and long-term disability coverage, and a 401(k) with company match.
