Backend Engineer

Role overview Develop and operate Java backend services for a modern web application, contributing across design, implementation, testing, documentation, and production monitoring. The role also supports code quality and engineering practices, with regular use of AI coding tools to improve development and testing workflows.

Responsibilities - Build, test, document, deliver, and monitor Java application features. - Review code and assess system designs to support consistent engineering standards. - Identify improvements to development methods and internal processes. - Use AI assistants and automation in coding, debugging, and testing. - Help colleagues in support, design, and sales understand the software.

Requirements - At least five years of commercial Java development experience across the application stack. - Strong Spring skills and understanding of object-oriented programming and design patterns. - Experience with SQL databases and Hibernate. - Practical experience using AI coding tools in daily development work. - Computer science degree or equivalent professional experience. - Strong written and spoken English.

Nice to have - Agile development experience and familiarity with CI/CD or DevOps tools. - Linux or Unix skills, including shell scripting; AWS knowledge. - Experience with PostgreSQL, distributed systems, Node.js, or modern HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
