Rust and Tauri Developer

Role overview A remote engineering position focused on building and maintaining cross-platform desktop applications built with the Tauri framework and Rust. The work combines systems-level Rust development with web-frontend integration, delivering desktop clients that serve clients across many sectors including fintech, healthtech, education, ecommerce, and logistics. The role sits within a dedicated desktop apps team at a specialist browser and desktop engineering firm.

Responsibilities

- Design, build, and maintain Tauri-based desktop applications that pair Rust backends with TypeScript-driven frontends. - Integrate and tune WebView2 on Windows and WKWebView on macOS to deliver consistent behavior across platforms. - Manage the Rust toolchain and dependencies with Cargo, keeping builds reproducible and well-structured. - Work closely with browser engineers and QA to ensure desktop apps remain stable as underlying browser engines evolve. - Participate in code reviews, share knowledge with the distributed engineering team, and help evolve shared desktop tooling.

Requirements

- Professional experience with Rust at a mid to senior level, including ownership of production codebases. - Hands-on experience with the Tauri framework for desktop application development. - Working knowledge of TypeScript for writing and integrating frontend layers. - Familiarity with webview technologies such as WebView2 and WKWebView. - Comfort working remotely and asynchronously within a globally distributed team.
