About this role
Role overview Develop and maintain statistical and machine learning models that help organizations understand public opinion, forecast elections, and plan resources. Working across the modeling lifecycle, you’ll tackle messy, changing political data and assess whether results reflect real signals or data artifacts.
Responsibilities - Build reliable modeling pipelines, including data quality checks and diagnostics. - Develop and improve models and features for survey and electoral analysis, including identity resolution, record linkage, and forecasting. - Find suitable ways to evaluate model performance when standard metrics do not fully fit the problem. - Translate statistical results into clear guidance tied to stakeholders’ strategic questions. - Scope technical needs and deliver solutions with engineers, statisticians, and political analysts. - Build political subject knowledge to inform modeling choices and spot anomalies.
Requirements - At least four years of professional machine learning engineering or research science experience in applied statistics and predictive modeling, or equivalent depth through a PhD program. - Strong Python skills, ability to work in an existing codebase, and experience with data wrangling; SQL and relational database experience are useful. - Sound judgment in evaluating model performance, diagnosing defects, and making principled decisions under uncertainty. - Ability to explain what models do and do not show to nontechnical partners. - Collaborative approach to working across technical and political disciplines, with interest in developing political domain knowledge.
Nice to have - Experience with identity resolution, matching or record linkage, survey or voter-file modeling, or scaled Bayesian modeling using tools such as NumPyro or JAX.
Benefits and work setup - Remote or optional in-person work; teams generally keep East Coast hours. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. - The source lists a $140,000–$190,000 annual salary range, medical, dental and vision coverage, a 401(k) match, 20 weeks of paid parental leave, family-building support, and unlimited paid time off.
