Founding Software Engineer

Role overview

Take end-to-end ownership of software in an early-stage environment where you will effectively form the initial engineering function. You will work closely with the founders to define problems, make technical decisions, and build, release, maintain, and improve product capabilities across frontend, backend, infrastructure, data, and AI. The work spans both product delivery and technical direction, with a strong emphasis on practical execution and learning beyond your primary specialty.

Responsibilities

- Build traveler-facing discovery features, including search, filters, property pages, and booking flows. - Develop the booking foundation covering reservations, availability, calendar synchronization, and payments. - Create host tools for onboarding, listing administration, and analytics. - Deliver AI-enabled capabilities such as property-aware guest messaging, listing generation, and natural-language trip discovery. - Contribute to decisions about product priorities, system design, and the technical direction of the platform. - Operate across the product lifecycle, from implementation and deployment through maintenance and improvement.

Requirements

- At least two years of experience shipping production software that you owned end to end, such as product features, backend systems, or production AI/LLM functionality. - Demonstrated depth in at least one area: product or frontend engineering, backend and distributed systems, or data and AI. - Willingness and ability to work outside your strongest area as the product requires. - Comfort with TypeScript and Node.js, or a strong engineering background that supports rapid ramp-up from another ecosystem. - Ability to work effectively with ambiguity, including defining the problem before determining the solution. - A practical bias toward shipping simple, maintainable solutions over extended planning or unnecessary complexity.
