Machine Learning Engineer

Role overview Improve how people retrieve short, informal notes they have chosen to save. You’ll own the quality of exact and semantic search, helping queries about time, named entities, and specific questions find useful fragments. The work balances retrieval effectiveness with privacy, low latency, and explicit user control over any assistant access.

Responsibilities - Develop and evaluate retrieval across models, text chunking, ranking, and search behavior. - Improve query understanding for time ranges, entities, and question-shaped searches beyond basic vector similarity. - Create evaluation sets based on brief, incomplete notes and use measured results to guide changes. - Improve multilingual search against real-world vocabularies. - Refine optional assistant tools so reading and writing remain clearly permission-bound. - Keep inference efficient while protecting quick capture and a calm product experience.

Requirements - Production experience shipping retrieval, search, or embedding systems. - Practical knowledge of privacy-preserving machine learning, including data minimization and user control over processing. - Ability to evaluate search over short, incomplete, real-world text. - A measurement-led approach to quality, with evidence before tuning. - Ability to work across latency, user experience, and privacy constraints.

Nice to have Experience with intent parsing, multilingual NLP, on-device or small-model inference, MCP, or agent tooling.
