Job details
About this role
Role overview The Comms Platform team runs the transactional messaging backbone for a consumer-facing finance product, delivering timely notifications over email, SMS, and push channels. Current focus areas include a multi-quarter platform re-architecture, hardening for high availability, and internationalization to support global growth. The team is hiring an experienced engineer who can own quarterly delivery, raise the quality bar, and mentor peers while keeping always-on customer communications reliable.
Responsibilities - Own quarterly goals for the team, guiding engineers through ambiguous problem spaces and supporting them from planning through delivery. - Partner with product, design, and analytics during ideation, articulating technical constraints and weighing trade-offs against business risk. - Proactively surface project, process, or technology gaps, advocate for fixes, and drive them to resolution. - Set and evolve code review and design standards within the team, and share those practices through writing and internal talks. - Coach engineers through regular feedback and leading by example, helping the team grow. - Participate in an on-call rotation to keep production communications healthy.
Requirements - 5+ years of backend engineering experience designing, building, and launching production systems at scale with Python. - Track record delivering highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL or DynamoDB, and Kubernetes. - Demonstrated ability to plan and ship significant features or services with simple, extensible designs and clean, reusable code. - Comfort making large-scale changes in mature codebases, supported by tooling and practices that keep the work safe. - Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaborating across a global engineering organization. - Equivalent practical experience or a bachelor's degree in a related field.
Benefits and work setup - Hybrid engineering environment with globally distributed teammates; on-call participation is required as part of the role.
