Remote job
Quantum Systems & Architecture Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview Apply quantum computing research to practical scientific and business problems, from algorithm design through demonstrations on simulators and real quantum processors. The role combines performance evaluation, hardware-aware compiler architecture, and collaboration with application teams to frame real-world challenges as quantum workloads. It also develops resource estimation methods for assessing architectures in preparation for fault-tolerant quantum computing.
Responsibilities - Design and implement quantum algorithms intended for hardware deployment. - Benchmark algorithms on simulators and demonstrate results on real quantum processors. - Evaluate algorithm performance and advance compiler and transpiler architectures. - Develop mapping and scheduling methods suited to the physical limits of target hardware. - Work with application teams and clients to translate real problems into quantum algorithm frameworks. - Build resource estimation tools, track research developments, and contribute to knowledge sharing and intellectual property work. - At senior level, set algorithm roadmaps, lead IP initiatives, and manage a team.
Requirements - Master’s degree or higher in computer science, physics, mathematics, or a related area, or equivalent professional expertise. - Strong quantum computing research record, such as peer-reviewed publications or conference presentations. - Deep understanding of quantum algorithms and computational complexity, paired with strong programming ability in Python, C++, or Rust. - At least three years of programming experience, including Python. - Ability to communicate research and technical proposals clearly to cross-functional teams and clients. - Postdoctoral, industry, or laboratory research experience in quantum computing, especially algorithm design and applications.
Nice to have - Work on quantum resource estimation tools or open quantum software such as Qiskit, Cirq, or Stim. - Fault-tolerant quantum computing research or accelerated simulation experience, including tensor networks or GPU computation. - Experience independently shaping technical projects from business challenges in uncertain R&D settings.
Benefits and work setup - Permanent, remote-first role with a hybrid option, based in Tokyo. - Annualized salary range of ¥5 million to ¥15 million, stock options, and transportation coverage. - Health, pension, employment, and workers’ compensation insurance; paid leave starts from the seventh month. - Typical hours are 9:00–18:00 with a 60-minute break; stated overtime is approximately 10–45 hours per month.
