Staff Software Engineer, Financial Platform - Issuing

Role overview A hands-on Staff Software Engineer position on the Issuing server engineering team that owns the end-to-end card issuing platform powering multiple fintech brands, including one of the largest debit card programs in the United States. The role focuses on the network boundary: specifications, protocols, certification, mandates, conformance, and production behavior across the full card lifecycle.

Responsibilities - Serve as a deep technical expert on global card networks, interpreting specifications, message flows, certification requirements, and mandates, and working directly with networks to influence outcomes. - Lead complex, ambiguous engineering problems at the network boundary that span multiple teams and systems. - Stay hands-on: write production code, build certification and conformance tooling, analyze network messages, review designs and code, and debug at the protocol level. - Drive network certification and mandatory release cycles end to end and translate network requirements into clear engineering decisions. - Establish shared frameworks, standards, tooling, and practices that make network expertise durable for other engineers. - Share operational ownership of critical financial systems through on-call, incident response, and continuous reliability improvements.

Requirements - Deep, current expertise with at least one major card network (Visa preferred), including ISO 8583, authorization and clearing flows, stand-in processing, specifications, certification, and mandate cycles. - Personal experience building, certifying, or operating a live direct network connection rather than only integrating through a processor. - Track record leading complex engineering work across multiple teams or systems. - Strong production coding and system-design skills with the ability to debug at the protocol and field level. - Comfort working with AI-powered tools across the engineering lifecycle.

Nice to have - Familiarity with multiple card networks beyond a single primary one. - Experience influencing external technical standards or partner requirements.
