Role overview This role owns how a production desktop application behaves across operating systems, with a strong focus on reliability, performance, and real-time user experience. The engineer will build and maintain cross-platform desktop clients and integrate AI-powered features through backend APIs. The position emphasizes stability, low latency, and smooth collaboration features inside a small, high-ownership engineering team.
Responsibilities - Build and maintain cross-platform desktop applications using Electron - Design responsive and scalable user interfaces for real-time collaboration experiences - Implement desktop-specific functionality including file system access, native notifications, auto-updates, and deep linking - Integrate AI-powered features such as chat, agents, and AI assistance through backend APIs - Optimize startup time, memory usage, and overall runtime performance - Profile and reduce Electron overhead while managing large local state and message history - Ensure smooth real-time updates including messages, typing indicators, and presence - Maintain stability and consistent behavior across macOS and Windows environments
Requirements - Proven professional software engineering experience - Hands-on experience building production Electron applications - Strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript - Experience with React or similar modern UI frameworks - Solid understanding of the desktop application lifecycle - Experience with inter-process communication patterns - Familiarity with local storage such as SQLite, IndexedDB, or filesystem APIs - Experience with WebSockets or other real-time transport mechanisms - Strong debugging and performance profiling skills
Nice to have - Familiarity with native OS behaviors on macOS or Windows - Exposure to SQL and NoSQL data stores
