Product Engineer, AI Email App
Job details
About this role
Role overview Work on an AI-powered email product that aims to help people organize conversations and complete everyday workflows with little or no prompting. This is a hands-on product engineering role at the intersection of user experience, AI capabilities, and system constraints. The work includes shaping how features should behave and helping the team measure and improve their reliability and usefulness.
Responsibilities - Define requirements for AI features across model behavior, system design, and user experience. - Work with machine-learning, backend, and client engineers to evaluate, design, and improve product capabilities. - Assess technical results and constraints to guide decisions about quality, speed, cost, reliability, safety, and usability. - Help develop evaluation methods using offline measures, live experiments, and human feedback. - Set quality expectations, identify failure patterns, and improve how the system responds when it cannot complete a task reliably. - Turn uncertain product problems into clear specifications, priorities, and measurable outcomes.
Requirements - Strong computer science fundamentals and system design skills. - Understanding of modern machine learning and how AI systems behave in production. - Experience owning complex technical products end to end and working with AI-powered products, particularly large language model systems. - Familiarity with model evaluation, experimentation, prompting, or iterative AI development. - Ability to read technical designs, engage deeply with engineers, and make sound decisions amid uncertainty. - Curiosity, a bias toward shipping and learning from users, and skill in collaborating across technical teams.
Nice to have - Experience building AI-focused consumer products or launching a product from zero to one. - An engineering background or strong technical product experience. - Experience defining machine-learning evaluation metrics and designing clear AI failure handling.
