Remote job
Interaction Designer, HCI
Job details
About this role
Role overview
Design the detailed interactions that help people use AI-driven workflows with confidence and control. The work covers how users initiate and supervise multi-step tasks, understand system status, intervene when needed, and recover from mistakes. You will help establish interaction patterns for a product area where established conventions are still limited.
Responsibilities
- Design interaction models for starting, monitoring, pausing, correcting, and completing AI-assisted tasks. - Specify interface states such as processing, waiting, uncertainty, interruption, failure, and recovery, including their transitions and edge cases. - Create controls for reviewing AI decisions, approving or overriding actions, and staying informed without constant supervision. - Develop patterns for delegation, confirmation, correction, escalation, reversibility, and recovery. - Produce annotated flows, prototypes, and detailed specifications for engineering handoff. - Partner with product, machine learning, and engineering teams; test designs with users and contribute reusable interaction patterns.
Requirements
- Experience as an interaction designer or senior UX designer, with strong interaction design depth. - Ability to work through detailed states, transitions, edge cases, and failure handling. - Strong prototyping skills using Figma or an equivalent tool. - Systematic thinking to translate complex, variable AI behavior into understandable user-facing interactions. - Understanding of human-computer interaction principles, including user control, transparency, feedback, and graceful recovery. - Experience working with engineers to deliver designed interactions, and good judgment about when to guide, interrupt, request confirmation, or let users proceed. - Comfort designing for systems whose outputs may vary between sessions.
Benefits and work setup
- Design candidates are asked to submit a portfolio. The process may include two interview rounds and a design assessment; interviews may be virtual or onsite.
