Staff Product Engineer (remote)

Role overview Set technical direction and build product systems that can support a growing user base for digital tools used by frontline workers. This staff-level engineering role combines broad technical leadership with hands-on product development, scaling work, and frequent releases. The team works remotely and iterates quickly on products that support public services.

Responsibilities - Guide technical direction across product and engineering teams, including departmental-level decisions. - Design and build systems that support global scale. - Ship product improvements to a large active user base through frequent release cycles. - Apply AI tools and techniques to improve product and engineering work. - Partner with product teams to identify and deliver solutions to user needs.

Requirements - Broad experience across infrastructure, backend, frontend, and data systems. - A track record of evolving software systems to handle increased scale and complexity. - Strong product judgment and a focus on building useful solutions. - Genuine interest in how AI is changing software development and product engineering. - Willingness to learn the existing stack, which includes Ruby on Rails, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Google Cloud Platform, React, and a component design system.

Benefits and work setup - Remote role with a stated base salary range of £130,000–£160,000, plus equity and additional benefits.
