Senior Infrastructure Engineer (Legacy Operations & Cloud Modernization)

Role overview A senior infrastructure engineer is needed to serve as the operational backbone of an engineering team that blends mature legacy systems with forward-looking cloud initiatives. The role centers on keeping production Java/Tomcat and MySQL 5.7 environments stable and secure while helping shape the architecture for new products built on modern, cloud-native stacks. Responsibilities - Own the incident lifecycle for production: triage alerts, isolate OS-level bottlenecks, debug performance problems, and drive rapid root-cause analysis under live-site pressure. - Monitor system health, application logs, and resource metrics through modern observability tooling, translating signals into actionable fixes. - Maintain, patch, and harden existing virtual machines on Google Cloud Platform, keeping the legacy footprint secure and available. - Care for MySQL 5.7 instances, including backups, query tuning, replication health, and troubleshooting connection pool or locking issues. - Partner with product engineering to design, provision, and scale next-generation infrastructure using managed services such as Cloud SQL and BigQuery. - Replace manual toil with Bash automation and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform), and support modern CI/CD deployment workflows. - Uphold enterprise security baselines through OS hardening, access controls, and disciplined vulnerability patching.

Requirements - Five or more years in system administration, SRE, or infrastructure operations within an enterprise setting. - Deep Linux administration skills, including performance tuning, troubleshooting, and ZFS storage and file system management. - Hands-on experience running and debugging Java/Tomcat applications in production. - Strong working knowledge of MySQL 5.7, covering query tuning, replication, backup and restore, and migration troubleshooting. - Practical Google Cloud Platform experience with managed databases (Cloud SQL) and data warehousing (BigQuery). - Production experience with Docker and Kubernetes, plus Terraform and modern CI/CD pipelines; calm, methodical incident response; clear communication with developers and stakeholders.

Nice to have - Familiarity with Java development enough to read application code, assist with debugging, or interpret stack traces. - Prior experience migrating legacy tech stacks to modern cloud-native architectures.
