Remote job
Sr. Network Development Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview
This senior engineering role focuses on building software-driven platform capabilities for global voice communications infrastructure. It sits at the intersection of backend software engineering, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and telecommunications, with responsibility for creating programmable APIs and services that abstract and manage distributed voice systems. Engineers operate autonomously in an R&D-oriented environment, exploring ambiguous technical problems and developing scalable solutions deployable across global cloud and data center footprints.
Responsibilities
- Design and operate backend services and platform APIs that provide programmable access to voice network infrastructure and internal platform capabilities. - Develop scalable orchestration and abstraction layers for globally distributed voice and network systems. - Own technical initiatives end to end, from problem definition and design through proof of concept, implementation, testing, deployment, and production readiness. - Build services engineered for scalability, resiliency, fault tolerance, and geo-redundant global deployments. - Maintain well-defined service contracts and APIs with reliability, backward compatibility, observability, and clear ownership. - Collaborate with cross-functional engineers to translate infrastructure and telecom requirements into software-driven platform capabilities, contribute to architecture decisions, and participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation supporting critical platform services.
Requirements
- 6+ years in software, backend, platform, or network development engineering, building production services at scale. - 4+ years developing backend services, APIs, automation, or platform capabilities in languages such as Python, Go, Java, or C#. - Demonstrated experience designing and owning public or high-use internal APIs, including versioning, reliability, observability, and lifecycle management. - Strong background with backend services, databases, distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, Linux-based environments, and major cloud platforms. - Familiarity with VoIP concepts, protocols such as SIP and RTP/RTCP, and voice infrastructure like Session Border Controllers or real-time communication systems. - Ability to independently navigate ambiguous technical problems, build prototypes and proofs of concept, and present engineering solutions to senior stakeholders, plus willingness to participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation.
Nice to have
- Experience building internal developer platforms, infrastructure APIs, or network control-plane services used by multiple engineering teams. - Background designing globally scalable architectures, distributed orchestration systems, or lifecycle management platforms. - Experience with Infrastructure as Code and orchestration technologies such as Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes, or Helm. - Exposure to observability, event-driven architectures, message queues, streaming platforms, or distributed telemetry systems.
Benefits and work setup
- Company-paid medical, vision, and dental coverage for employees and families with low deductibles and out-of-pocket costs. - Four weeks of paid time off for new hires, with additional PTO earnable throughout the year. - A protected time-off policy that prevents managers and colleagues from interrupting leave, including via email. - Additional leave granted for major life milestones such as graduations, first home purchase, marriage, anniversaries, and the birth of a grandchild. - Wellness offerings including extended workout lunches and access to a company nutritionist.
