Backend Engineer

Role overview Build and operate backend services that support international transfers, currency conversion, account management, and payment processing. You will own services from design through production, with a focus on correctness, security, and reliability across a distributed financial platform.

Responsibilities - Design APIs, microservices, and background workers for transfers and account services. - Integrate with payment, banking, and foreign exchange partners. - Add tests, monitoring, and service-level objectives to keep systems observable and reliable. - Partner with compliance colleagues to address market-specific regulatory needs. - Review code, shape architecture practices, and support junior engineers.

Requirements - At least four years building production backend systems at scale. - Strong experience with Node.js or Go; familiarity with both is useful. - Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL, including schema design and query tuning. - Experience developing and integrating payment APIs. - Understanding of distributed system patterns such as queues, retries, idempotency, and eventual consistency. - Security awareness, including common injection, request forgery, and authentication risks.

Nice to have - Experience with ledgers, financial systems, or double-entry accounting in software. - Familiarity with PCI-DSS, GDPR, or financial regulation. - Experience with Redis, message queues, or event-driven systems. - Work on multi-currency or FX products.
