Remote job
Senior Electrical Engineer, RF & Wireless Hardware (Chip-Down Design) | Remote Eligible | Relocation Assistance
Job details
About this role
Role overview
This is a senior electrical engineering position focused on chip-down RF and wireless hardware design for mission-critical connected devices used in public-safety operations. The engineer will own the full hardware lifecycle—from architecture and chipset selection through schematic capture, PCB layout, bring-up, validation, regulatory certification, and mass production—while partnering closely with firmware, mechanical, antenna, and manufacturing teams. The role is described as a founding hardware team seat, shaping how multiple wireless technologies coexist inside compact, battery-powered products.
Responsibilities
- Architect, design, and integrate multi-transceiver RF systems spanning LMR, LTE/cellular, and broadband wireless technologies at the chip and board level. - Translate system and product requirements into wireless hardware architectures, evaluating chipsets, transceivers, front-end components, interfaces, and system-level tradeoffs. - Develop and review schematics and PCB layouts for RF transceivers, modems, front-end modules, power delivery, control interfaces, and supporting digital circuits. - Solve coexistence, desense, interference, isolation, harmonics, spurious emissions, grounding, shielding, and EMI/EMC challenges inside dense multi-radio products. - Partner with antenna, mechanical, and industrial design teams on placement, RF routing, shielding, board layout, and enclosure-related RF performance. - Lead wireless hardware bring-up, characterization, and root-cause analysis using spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, signal generators, power meters, and related RF test equipment. - Drive hardware through verification, regulatory and carrier certification, SP/EVT/DVT/PVT builds, manufacturing ramp, and mass production. - Provide technical direction while working with chipset vendors, external design partners, ODMs/JDMs, and internal engineering teams.
Requirements
- Seven or more years of wireless hardware or RF electronics design experience and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline. - Demonstrated chip-down RF design or board-level integration of transceivers and modems, rather than solely integrating pre-certified modules. - Working knowledge of one or more wireless technologies such as LMR, LTE/cellular, broadband wireless, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or GNSS. - Experience designing and debugging RF circuitry including transceivers, RF front ends, filtering, matching, switching, amplification, clocks, power delivery, and digital control interfaces. - Strong grasp of coexistence, interference, desense, isolation, harmonics, spurious emissions, grounding, shielding, and EMI/EMC in compact, multi-transceiver products. - Proficiency with schematic and PCB tools such as Cadence OrCAD and Allegro, or comparable professional design platforms. - Hands-on bring-up and debugging experience with spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, signal generators, and power supplies.
Nice to have
- Experience integrating regulated LMR frequencies alongside cellular radios inside small, battery-powered hardware. - Familiarity with carrier certification workflows and high-volume manufacturing transitions.
Benefits and work setup
- Remote-eligible with relocation assistance available. - Opportunity to help establish the wireless hardware function as an early member of a growing hardware team serving a public-safety mission.
