Role overview
A remote, part-time Database Administrator opening centered on PostgreSQL that underpins media processing pipelines. The role owns availability, backup and recovery, high availability and replication, schema review, and observability at enterprise scale. Compensation is annualized in the $95,000–$120,000 range and pro-rated for part-time work.
Responsibilities
- Operate and tune PostgreSQL clusters for latency, throughput, and cost efficiency. - Implement robust backup, restore, and retention policies with tested disaster recovery plans. - Collaborate with engineering on schema design, migrations, and capacity planning. - Build monitoring and alerting, define SLOs, and maintain incident response playbooks. - Contribute to data governance, access controls, and compliance documentation.
Requirements
- Four or more years administering PostgreSQL in production with a focus on performance and reliability. - Deep expertise in indexing, partitioning, VACUUM/ANALYZE, and query tuning. - Experience with high availability and replication, backup and recovery strategy, and disaster recovery drills. - Security hardening, auditing, and compliance-minded data stewardship.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with cloud object storage and time-series data. - Infrastructure as code experience. - Comfort with Prometheus and Grafana.
