Software Engineer

Role overview A full-stack software engineering position at a high-growth GovTech SaaS company that helps government agencies modernize their administrative operations. The role contributes to a platform that manages billions of dollars in public funds and serves state, local, and federal agencies. The engineer will tackle complex technical challenges, from modularizing the core domain to designing the next generation of the workflow engine, while participating in major architectural decisions.

Responsibilities - Ship complex, high-impact features across the platform, including versioning systems, approval workflows, and permission models - Participate in architectural decisions that scale across multiple customer configurations, contribute to Architecture Decision Records, and help drive modularization of the core domain - Engage in deep, architectural code reviews and contribute to automated quality gate improvements - Leverage AI-native tooling to offload boilerplate and refine patterns including agentic testing and automated reviews - Partner with product managers to translate ambiguous requirements into elegant technical specifications

Requirements - 3+ years of professional full-stack experience with strong engineering fundamentals in system design, database optimization, and clean architecture - Demonstrated ability to understand and contribute to complex domain objects and data models in production environments - Comfort partnering with product managers to turn ambiguous requirements into clear technical specs - Strong working knowledge of defensive coding practices and authorization models for protecting sensitive data - History of writing clean, maintainable code with comprehensive testing, including documentation and observability

Nice to have - Familiarity with React and/or Next.js - Strong knowledge of Ruby on Rails conventions and modular monoliths - Experience with document generation, rich text editors, or systems processing unstructured data within secure workflows - Background in compliance-heavy environments such as GovTech, FinTech, or HealthTech (FedRAMP, SOC 2, or HIPAA) - Experience with or strong desire to learn AWS infrastructure (ECS/EKS, CloudWatch) and modern deployment pipelines - Previous experience in fast-growing startups in the $5M–$30M ARR range
