Senior Software Engineer – Data Focused

Role overview Build and improve production software for a platform replacing a group of legacy systems used in environmental work. This is a hands-on senior engineering role on a small team, spanning features, integrations, troubleshooting, testing, and release support, with an initial emphasis on complex data migration work.

Responsibilities - Take features and fixes from understanding the need through implementation, testing, and release support. - Develop application features, services, APIs, and integrations across the system. - Investigate legacy databases and build or improve data migration and validation routines. - Work with business stakeholders to clarify workflows, rules, and desired outcomes. - Troubleshoot issues, add useful automated tests, and maintain clear code and documentation. - Pair and collaborate with teammates, review code, share knowledge, and help unblock delivery.

Requirements - Substantial experience building and maintaining production software through delivery. - Strong programming and debugging skills, including APIs, relational databases, and automated testing. - Practical SQL skills and an understanding of how data moves through an application. - Ability to learn unfamiliar systems, navigate ambiguity, and make sound implementation decisions. - Clear communication with technical and nontechnical colleagues; willingness to surface questions and blockers. - Ownership, flexibility, and comfort contributing outside a narrow specialty.

Nice to have - Experience with PostgreSQL, data modeling or migration, cloud services, or event-driven systems. - Familiarity with Node.js, TypeScript, React, Kafka, or AWS; experience with every listed tool is not required.
