Role overview Step into a senior specialist role at a growing EdTech company where data powers customer-facing products that predict exam outcomes and personalise study for hundreds of thousands of students. As Senior Data Engineer, you will be a go-to authority for data engineering, shaping how the platform ingests, transforms and exposes data at scale. The position combines deep technical ownership with cross-team enablement, influencing both product features and the wider data culture.
Responsibilities - Lead the design and evolution of the data platform that supports personalised learning products - Drive development of data-powered features such as predicted grades, adaptive learning and exam outcome probabilities - Set technical standards and patterns that make trusted data easier for other engineers and teams to use - Mentor colleagues and help engineers navigate the data ecosystem, raising overall platform quality - Collaborate with engineers, product managers, education experts and business teams to turn complex problems into reusable solutions
Requirements - Significant experience owning production data infrastructure end to end - Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical colleagues, making complex data problems accessible - Comfort working across specialisms and stepping outside a narrow remit when needed - Confident, hands-on use of AI tools and agents as part of learning, investigating and building
Nice to have - Hands-on experience with BigQuery, Airflow and dbt, or comparable modern data tooling - Experience with CockroachDB, Postgres or other distributed or relational databases, including CDC or event-driven pipelines - Familiarity with data visualisation, preferably Tableau or Metabase - Track record of making data safely self-service through internal tooling, analytics platforms or LLM-powered interfaces - Background supporting product analytics or building data-powered product features
