Platform Engineer (Cloud & Infrastructure)

Role overview This position centres on owning the infrastructure that products run on, with a strong emphasis on building everything as code, operating systems calmly under pressure, and keeping cloud and platform costs tightly controlled. It is a hands-on platform engineering role best suited to someone who combines deep infrastructure expertise with a pragmatic, cost-aware mindset.

Responsibilities

- Design, build, and maintain cloud and platform infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code tooling and practices - Operate production environments with a focus on reliability, stability, and low operational friction - Continuously monitor and optimise infrastructure spend to deliver cost-efficient systems - Partner with product engineering teams to provide a dependable foundation for new and existing services - Respond to and resolve infrastructure incidents in a calm, methodical manner, including after-hours when required

Requirements

- Proven hands-on experience operating cloud infrastructure in production environments - Strong proficiency with infrastructure-as-code approaches and modern cloud platforms - Demonstrated ability to balance reliability, performance, and cost when making engineering decisions - Comfort remaining composed and effective during incidents, on-call rotations, and operational pressure - Solid understanding of core platform concepts such as networking, compute, storage, identity, and observability

Nice to have

- Experience introducing or maturing infrastructure-as-code standards across a team or organisation - Familiarity with cost-engineering practices, such as rightsizing, tagging strategies, and budgeting guardrails - Track record of improving operational maturity, including incident response, runbooks, and post-incident learning
