Software Engineer

Role overview

A founding engineering position on an early-stage team building open-source AI infrastructure. The work spans two complementary areas: the internal platform core and the customer-facing edge layer, with the team matching candidates to the track that fits their strengths. The organization operates as remote-first, while still offering optional on-site collaboration in London or Montreal.

Responsibilities

- Design and build components of an open-source AI infrastructure platform intended for broad community adoption - Develop features on either the platform core (foundational systems) or the customer-facing edge (user and integration surfaces), depending on the track - Collaborate closely with a small founding team to shape architecture, technical priorities, and engineering practices - Write production-quality code with attention to reliability, performance, and maintainability - Contribute to documentation, design write-ups, and code review to keep the codebase healthy as the team grows - Engage with the wider open-source community around the project, including issue triage and contribution workflows

Requirements

- Solid software engineering background, comfortable working across backend and systems-level concerns - Hands-on experience with or strong interest in AI infrastructure, machine learning platforms, model serving, or related tooling - Comfort operating in a small, early-stage environment with significant ownership and ambiguity - Demonstrated track record of building and maintaining production systems - Strong written communication skills suited to remote, distributed collaboration - Self-directed work style with the ability to prioritize in a fast-moving setting

Nice to have

- Prior contributions to or maintainership of open-source projects - Familiarity with infrastructure primitives such as containers, orchestration platforms, or cloud-native deployment - Experience with the data and serving layers commonly used in AI workloads - Interest in shaping developer experience for an open-source community
