Remote job
Quantum Algorithm Engineer (m/f/d)
Job details
About this role
Role overview Develop gate-based quantum circuits for practical optimization problems, then take them through compilation and error mitigation into customer-facing software. The work combines hands-on quantum research with engineering: you’ll follow the literature, choose promising approaches, and evaluate how they perform on real quantum processors.
Responsibilities - Design and implement optimization circuits, especially QAOA and related methods, including mixers that preserve constraints. - Build circuit compilation capabilities spanning transpilation, qubit routing, and error mitigation. - Investigate research developments and decide which ideas are worth implementing. - Integrate working methods into an optimization platform and assess them with customers. - Publish research findings and contribute to the direction of the quantum software stack.
Requirements - Practical experience building gate-based circuits beyond textbook examples, through research or industry work. - Depth in at least one of quantum optimization algorithms, circuit compilation, or error mitigation, with interest in developing the other areas. - Ability to work independently on open-ended technical problems. - Experience with Qiskit, PennyLane, or a comparable quantum SDK, and ability to write maintainable code. - Comfort collaborating, asking questions, and responding constructively to feedback. - Based in Germany, with Munich preferred; remote work within Germany is possible.
Nice to have - Familiarity with quantum error correction and the direction of the field.
Benefits and work setup - Flexible hours and location; people near Munich are asked to visit the office about weekly. - Support for publishing and attending conferences, with scope to influence the technical roadmap. - Work is integrated into production and evaluated with customers. - Fitness membership and a subscription to an AI assistant are included.
