Sr QA Automation Engineer

Role overview This senior QA automation role focuses on raising engineering quality across a high-growth fintech by writing production-grade test code, shaping squad-level test strategy, and mentoring other engineers. The position treats quality as an engineering discipline, blending hands-on automation with coaching, metrics-driven improvement, and AI-assisted testing. It suits a senior engineer who wants to influence how an entire engineering organization practices quality rather than operate as a pure tester.

Responsibilities - Define and own the test strategy for a squad, selecting appropriate techniques across unit, integration, contract, and end-to-end layers. - Build production-grade automation, internal tools, and reusable test scripts that other engineers rely on. - Track and act on quality metrics such as coverage, flakiness, test duration, and defect rates, using data to prioritize improvements. - Apply AI tooling to generate test cases, detect flaky tests, surface coverage gaps, and speed up feedback loops. - Mentor engineers through pairing, TDD coaching, and test design reviews, and shift quality left by improving testability earlier in the design process. - Participate in on-call and incident response, using logs, metrics, and observability tooling to investigate and escalate production issues.

Requirements - Three to five or more years as a QA automation engineer writing maintainable production code in at least one modern language such as Java, TypeScript, Python, or Dart. - Hands-on experience building and maintaining automated tests across web, API, and mobile using tools like Selenium, Playwright, Appium, Rest Assured, or Maestro and Patrol. - Deep knowledge of test architecture, CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins and GitHub Actions, and on-call production troubleshooting using observability platforms. - Familiarity with stacks such as Java and Spring, Angular or Flutter, AWS, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and tooling like Datadog, Postman, Bruno, and JMeter. - Demonstrated AI fluency, including using AI to generate tests, identify edge cases, and champion AI-powered quality tools. - Strong coaching and communication skills, full professional fluency in Spanish, and working English for cross-team collaboration.

Nice to have - Experience in fintech, payments, or other high-reliability systems. - Mobile testing background with Flutter, iOS, or Android, and frameworks like Maestro or Patrol. - Performance and load testing expertise, contract testing with Pact, or open-source contributions to testing tools. - Experience managing a mobile device farm such as Sauce Labs.
