Job details
About this role
Role overview This is a remote, part-time consulting opportunity for experienced Python engineers to contribute to scoped software engineering projects on a flexible, per-project basis. Engagements involve working with real-world, multi-file codebases on debugging, feature development, refactoring, migrations, testing, and technical review. The structure suits engineers who want project work alongside other professional commitments rather than a traditional full-time role.
Responsibilities - Debug and resolve issues across complex, multi-file production codebases - Implement new backend or full-stack functionality tied to clearly defined requirements - Refactor existing systems and support production migrations - Develop and extend unit and integration test suites, then validate alignment with expected outputs - Write technical specifications and reference implementations, and surface edge cases or ambiguities early - Conduct code and technical submission reviews, providing clear, actionable feedback
Requirements - Two to seven years of professional software engineering experience - Strong proficiency in Python, plus professional experience with JavaScript or TypeScript - Working knowledge of at least one additional language such as Java, C#, or Go - Backend or full-stack experience operating production codebases - Hands-on experience with testing frameworks such as pytest, Jest, JUnit, xUnit, or Go testing - Advanced written English proficiency, with strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Nice to have - Prior comfort navigating large multi-file codebases and handling production migrations - Demonstrated track record of thoughtful code review and refactoring work
Benefits and work setup - Fully remote engagement with contributors managing their own schedule and equipment - Project-based consulting compensated per project, with estimated hourly rates tied to scope - Part-time and flexible commitment, allowing contributors to take on work based on availability and to continue other professional engagements
