Remote job
Staff FPGA Engineer - Simulink (REMOTE)
Job details
About this role
Role overview Staff-level FPGA engineering role on the embedded processing side of advanced communications and networking systems. The position centers on taking algorithms modeled in MATLAB/Simulink all the way through to production firmware on FPGAs, SoCs, and SoMs, while partnering closely with RF, DSP, firmware, software, and test colleagues.
Responsibilities - Partner with cross-functional engineering groups (RF, DSP, firmware, software, test) to deliver robust embedded processing solutions for communications and networking. - Own and optimize the FPGA firmware lifecycle, from Simulink algorithms and requirements through architecture, design, implementation, verification, integration, and sustainment on low-cost FPGAs, SoCs, and SoMs. - Define and refine HDL firmware workflows and best practices covering architecture, simulation, verification, and system-level testing. - Author microprocessor interface control documents (ICDs) describing how the FPGA exchanges messages and data with surrounding subsystems. - Support bring-up and troubleshooting of complex board designs in communications systems.
Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent. - 10+ years designing, implementing, and verifying FPGA-based systems using VHDL or Verilog. - Hands-on experience using code generators to translate MATLAB/Simulink algorithms into FPGA implementations. - Proficiency in C and C++, plus practical experience with an RTOS. - Familiarity with common MCU, CPU, and FPGA devices and standard interfaces such as Ethernet, I2C, SPI, PCIe, and USB. - Working knowledge of flight-software architectures and embedded development processes, comfort with basic EE test equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators), and eligibility to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
Nice to have - Background in wireless communications systems and computer networking. - Exposure to AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., Copilot, Claude, Code-GPT). - Experience with high-reliability designs in aerospace environments and aircraft system architectures, including redundant systems. - Familiarity with DO-254, DO-178C, DO-160, and DO-311A, as well as MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-704, and MIL-STD-461.
Benefits and work setup - Remote-friendly role within the United States. - Base salary range of $220,000–$292,000 USD, with highly competitive equity grants included in the majority of full-time offers. - Comprehensive, competitive benefits package available at little to no cost to employees, supporting health, recovery, and family needs.
