Senior FPGA Engineer - Simulink (REMOTE)
Job details
About this role
Role overview
A senior-level opportunity for an FPGA engineer focused on Simulink-driven development within a defense technology environment. The role centers on building embedded processing pipelines for communications and networking systems that combine autonomy, sensor fusion, and real-time command and control. It is a fully remote position partnering closely with cross-functional hardware and software teams.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineers spanning RF, DSP, firmware, software, and test to deliver reliable embedded processing solutions for communications and networking products. - Drive the FPGA firmware development lifecycle from MATLAB or Simulink algorithm models through architecture, design, implementation, verification, integration, and long-term sustainment on cost-optimized FPGAs, SoCs, and SoMs. - Define and refine HDL firmware workflows and best practices covering architecture, simulation, verification, and system-level testing. - Author microprocessor interface control documents that govern messaging and data handling between FPGA logic and adjacent processors.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline. - Six or more years designing, implementing, and verifying FPGA-based systems in VHDL or Verilog. - Hands-on experience using code-generation tooling to convert MATLAB and Simulink algorithms into FPGA implementations. - Proficiency in C and C++, plus practical experience with real-time operating systems. - Familiarity with common MCU, CPU, and FPGA devices, and standard interfaces such as Ethernet, I2C, SPI, PCIe, and USB. - Competence with core electrical engineering instrumentation including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and signal generators, and experience testing populated boards. - Eligibility to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
Nice to have
- Background in wireless communications systems and computer networking. - Familiarity with AI-assisted coding tools. - Exposure to implementing hardened security features in firmware or hardware. - Experience with high-reliability aerospace design practices and aircraft system architectures, including redundancy concepts. - Working knowledge of DO-254, DO-178C, DO-160, DO-311A and MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-461. - Comfort designing, testing, and troubleshooting complex communications boards.
Benefits and work setup
- Remote work arrangement. - Base salary range of approximately $166,000 to $220,000 USD, with actual compensation influenced by experience, training, and business considerations. - Highly competitive equity grants included as part of the full-time total compensation package. - Comprehensive benefits program covering health, recovery, and family support, offered at little to no cost to employees.
