About this role

Role overview Set product design direction for workforce software that supports urgent, operational staffing decisions. This full-time leadership role combines hands-on design for AI-enabled and existing products with team development, design standards, and a continuous customer research practice.

Responsibilities - Lead design across new AI-focused product areas and the core platform, improving workflows for frontline and administrative users. - Define how AI decisions are presented, including confidence, errors, and user review or override controls. - Establish user experience principles, AI interaction principles, design standards, and reusable patterns; guide design system growth. - Lead design reviews and shape how design work fits into the product delivery cycle and engineering practices. - Manage and mentor an associate designer, set expectations, provide feedback, and support the evolution of the design team. - Lead customer discovery: plan and facilitate research, synthesize findings, and share evidence with product decision-makers.

Requirements - 7+ years in product design, mainly for complex B2B or enterprise software, with a portfolio spanning discovery to shipped work. - Experience leading or mentoring designers and raising the quality of a team’s work. - Strong interaction design, systems thinking, and visual design skills, including complex workflows and dense interfaces. - Sound judgment balancing design quality with delivery constraints, and ability to influence product and engineering through clear reasoning. - Track record of setting design standards and building or scaling a design system. - Strong research and facilitation skills, including in-person work with frontline or operational users. - Hands-on experience designing AI features and using AI-assisted design and development workflows. - Clear written communication that records decisions and rationale for the team.

Nice to have - Experience in workforce management, scheduling, healthcare operations, or another complex, rules-driven domain. - Familiarity with unionized, healthcare, or manufacturing workforces; high-volume mobile use by frontline staff; or establishing continuous discovery.

Benefits and work setup - Permanent, full-time role, remote anywhere in Canada, with flexible hours and occasional travel for customer discovery. - Health and dental coverage, annual flexible spending account, $1,500 yearly professional development budget, and $1,000 home office allowance. - Four weeks of vacation, 12 statutory holidays, and two flexible days.
