Staff Software Engineer - DevX
Job details
About this role
Role overview
Join the Developer Experience team as a Staff Software Engineer focused on engineering velocity at an AI-first digital analytics platform. You'll set architecture for the developer platform, lead software factory initiatives, and push development toward cloud-first workflows. This is a high-leverage, low-oversight role for someone who can take an ambiguous problem end to end into production.
Responsibilities
- Unify and scale local, remote, and ephemeral development environments across a polyglot codebase, making provisioning, building, testing, and debugging fast and reliable for engineers and AI agents - Lead the software factory effort by finding the biggest workflow bottleneck, automating it, and moving to the next one - Build sandboxes and tooling that enable AI agents to operate directly, not just assist - Own build systems, CI/CD, developer environments, and internal tooling, driving down build time, deploy risk, and feedback latency - Set technical direction and standards, turn ambiguous problems into roadmaps, and mentor senior and staff engineers through design review and pairing
Requirements
- Staff-level engineering experience and impact - Full-stack skills leaning toward infrastructure, with strong backend and systems fundamentals - Experience moving a team's development workflow into the cloud, including VMs, remote environments, preview branches, or sandboxes - A track record of shipping developer tooling or platform infrastructure that measurably improved velocity - Hands-on experience building agentic or AI-powered engineering workflows, applied responsibly with human oversight - Strong judgment, clear writing, and the ability to drive alignment without formal authority
Nice to have
- Monorepo tooling experience or large-scale platform migrations - Agent harness infrastructure, including eval frameworks, orchestration, or sandboxing for LLMs
Benefits and work setup
- Location: hybrid San Francisco or remote within the United States - Equity and benefits eligibility - State-specific base salary ranges, including $173,000 to $238,000 in Colorado and Washington, and $192,000 to $264,000 in California and New York City (inclusive of bonus or commission where applicable) - Washington-based employees receive unlimited PTO, ten to thirteen holidays annually, medical, dental, and vision PPO and CDHP plans, and a company-sponsored 401(k) retirement plan
