Job details
About this role
Role overview
Set technical direction and deliver major improvements to the cloud platform behind customer products, data pipelines, and AI workloads. This is a hands-on staff-level individual contributor role spanning infrastructure, reliability, and security, with shared responsibility for operations and on-call support.
Responsibilities - Operate and evolve production Kubernetes clusters, including networking, workload identity, secrets, deployment, and capacity management. - Lead infrastructure-as-code improvements, such as module design, provider upgrades, drift correction, and safe change controls. - Improve reliability of production databases through replication, failover, backup and recovery, capacity planning, and upgrades. - Build isolated, observable environments for AI and agent workloads, with controlled network access and a safe self-service deployment path. - Maintain monitoring, alerting, and telemetry practices, and identify opportunities to reduce cloud costs. - Participate in on-call, lead incident response and post-incident reviews, and support engineering and data teams. - Document designs, review code, and mentor engineers to spread platform knowledge.
Requirements - Eight or more years in infrastructure, platform engineering, or a related area, including leading substantial programs through rollout and cutover. - Deep production Kubernetes experience, ideally with a managed cloud service and network policy. - Strong Terraform experience at scale and familiarity with GitOps-style workflows. - Production experience with a major cloud provider; Azure is preferred, while deep AWS or GCP experience is also relevant. - Experience operating relational or analytical databases, including recovery and upgrades. - Security-focused practice with identity, least privilege, secrets management, and network isolation. - Skills in observability, SLO-oriented operations, and Python or shell scripting; clear async communication is essential.
Nice to have - ClickHouse at scale, workflow platforms, Kubernetes autoscaling or networking tools, and infrastructure for AI workloads. - Compliance program experience, cloud cost management, or work with energy and time-series data.
Benefits and work setup - Remote role open to UK, EU, and US time zones, with at least three hours of daily overlap with US Central Time and on-call shifts during local working hours. - Salary and stock options based on location, medical, dental and vision coverage, annual company retreat, and flexible paid time off.
